The Neapolitan Mastiff Club was founded in October 1998 by a group of Mastino enthusiasts who wished to increase their knowledge and understanding of this highly individualistic breed and, with the rise in popularity of the breed throughout the 90’s, soon realised that there were many Mastino enthusiasts ‘out there’ wishing to do the same.
The ‘proposed’ Neapolitan Mastiff Club was formed with the primary purpose of providing its Membership with the knowledge, information, and understanding they collectively sought, to enable them to protect the interests of the Neapolitan Mastiff in Great Britain. They were aiming to ensure the care, the well-being and the welfare of the Neapolitan Mastiff. To protect the breed against abuse, neglect, unethical practices,and to promote the development of the Neapolitan Mastiff to the highest possible standard in the UK. That purpose is the same today as it was back in 1998.
In February 2002, The ‘proposed’ Neapolitan Mastiff Club, was officially Recognised by The Kennel Club, as the UK’s Official Breed Club and since this time, The Neapolitan Mastiff Club has gone from strength to strength. Holding its 1st open show in 2004.
The Neapolitan Mastiff remains a ‘Rare Breed’ without Championship Status and as such, is not yet allocated Challenge Certificates in recognition of merits achieved at Championship shows. We are unable, at present to host our own Championship show but we continue to host a Single Breed Open show each year which members are entitled to enter at a reduced rate. Plus since 2017 we also hold a members only limited show.
Initial breed enquirers are invited to join our club FB page and are provided with Breed specific Information. New Members once ratified, receive our award winning (2009) Welcome / Breed Information Pack and each year Club Members receive show schedules, Molosser Fun Day Invitation, Seminar Information & reduced entry to Club events. Membership of the Club also ensures that each Member is assured of a help and support network as and when it is required.
