The Neapolitan Mastiff Club 13th Breed Open Show Saturday, 10th APRIL 2016
Judge’s Report – Julia Manfredi
It was a great privilege to be invited to judge at the Neapolitan Mastiff Club’s annual open show. I enjoyed it very much! As many of you are probably aware Neapolitan Mastiffs are very close to my heart and are superseded only by the Mastiff. My sincere thanks to my two efficient stewards, Hilary Cooke and Angela Dodd. To you, the exhibitors thank you for supporting me and accepting my decisions in such a sporting manner.
I was taught to judge positively, not negatively and I think that generally the breed is in a “good place” at the moment and that the majority of exhibits displayed the breed traits that differentiate the Neapolitan. Movement was excellent. Yes, there was some haw, however, eyes were all clean, no discharge, no running or discomfort apparent. Bites were on the whole excellent. Nice large noses with well open nostrils were very much apparent as was the inverted “v” and thick fleshy lips. Another thing in abundance was the correct top line and undercarriage, something that I personally love to see, correct tail set and carriage.
Just a couple of things to watch, not enough filling under the eye sockets resulting in the fore face falling away and not enough width across the muzzle.
“NOT FOR COMPETITION PARADE” 6: Some very strongly built promising babies. Lovely!
SPECIAL VETERAN DOG OR BITCH 1(abs1)
PUPPY DOG 4
1 Drake’s Rayvonley Nero: Very well grown youngster, nearly twelve months old, excellent bone, good length of body. He has a promising head of the correct proportions with enough wrinkle, a flat wide skull, good ear set and typical expression. However, at the moment he is down on his pasterns and very flat footed, hopefully with the correct husbandry this can be rectified. R.B.P.I.S.
2 Slater & Mafi’s Forget me not Oliff: Ten months old, nicely put together, lovely bone, strong neck, correct length of body. Flat skull, correctly set ears, moved well. Preferred the head and expression of 1.
3 Attewell’s Neafox Domenico: Seven months old, well put together, rather plain at the moment.
4 Pervenis’ Yehuda A Castore Et Polluce Del Mastini.
